I am a Research Associate Professor in Geological Sciences and Assistant Director of the X-ray Microanalysis Laboratory at the University of Missouri. My work spans paleontological research, advanced scientific imaging, and the management of a multidisciplinary research facility serving academia, industry, and government.
Alongside my own research, I oversee laboratory operations, coordinate collaborative projects, and develop new capabilities that support research across a wide range of disciplines. I particularly enjoy managing complex projects, building meaningful collaborations, and finding practical solutions to scientific and operational challenges that advance scientific discovery.

Research
Paleobiology, Taphonomy, and Advanced Scientific Imaging
My research explores the early evolution of animal life and the processes that influence how organisms become preserved in the fossil record (taphonomy). I am particularly interested in the Ediacaran–Cambrian transition, early biomineralization, fossil preservation, and the application of advanced microscopy and three-dimensional imaging to paleontological questions.
My work combines field investigations, experimental approaches, X-ray micro-computed tomography, scanning electron microscopy, and quantitative analysis. I also collaborate on interdisciplinary projects that apply these imaging technologies to biological, geological, and other complex materials.
Across these projects, I am interested in how emerging technologies can improve our ability to collect, visualize, and interpret scientific data.

X-ray Computed Tomography (µCT) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM)
I am the Assistant Director of the X-ray Microanalysis Laboratory, or MizzoµX, which is a College of Arts & Science service facility housed in the Department of Geological Sciences. We offer full services in X-ray tomographic microscopy and scanning electron microscopy, including working with you on sample preparation, processing, and data analysis. Outreach
My outreach work brings together science, art, and storytelling to make scientific discovery accessible and engaging to broader audiences. I enjoy collaborating with artists, educators, and community organizations to develop creative programs that encourage curiosity and participation. Through public talks, exhibitions, educational workshops, and hands-on experiences, I aim to connect people with scientific research in ways that are meaningful, approachable, and memorable.
